Asheville, NC: A Music Lover's Paradise

When people think of Asheville, often times they think about the mountains, the Blue Ridge Parkway or landmarks such as the Biltmore Estate... but our town is so much more than that.  Aside from the food and beer scene, Asheville has an extremely diverse music scene.  Let's take this weekend's events for example.
Tonight (6/10/16) River Music begins their summer events at the RiverLink Sculpture and Performance Plaza featuring the "Friends of Widespread Panic evening".
5:30:  Randall Bramblett Band
6:45:  Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons
8:15:  Bloodkin
RiverMusic gates will open at 5 p.m. and the good times roll until 10. RiverFest will begin at 1 p.m., about the time the Anything That Floats parade yachts will begin arriving at the river access we built, and go until 7 p.m.
Also tonight, Hickory Nut Gap is hosting a barn dance as part of their summer series where the featured band will be Cane Creek Boys and will include Square Dance styl ...

Montreat, NC: Rich In History, Full of Community

Asheville is known for its food, entertainment and vibrant atmosphere, but there is so much to do around the perimeter; there are a lot of little towns that are rarely talked about but they are full of life and rich in history.  Let's take Montreat, NC for instance.  Montreat is  a suburb of Black Mountain, with a population of just over 700, it was incorporated in 1967; a majority of the area, to this day, is still owned by the Mountain Retreat Association.

Montreat thrives to this day in large part to the Montreat Presbyterian Church: PC(USA), Montreat College (founded in 1916), and Christ Community Church (formerly Montreat Presbyterian Church, EPC).  Did you know that Montreat College was almost forced to close its doors recently?  Though they were able to celebrate their 100 year anniversary, it didn't come without adversity.  Almost two years ago Montreat found itself in financial ruin and was on the cusp of merging with another c ...

Where to Eat and Drink in Asheville, NC

Steve & Carol Bourke, founders of The Bourke Group, have lived in the Asheville area for over 25 years in the Lakeview Park Neighborhood.  Both are active in the local community and enjoy social events and the culinary diversity of the mountains.  Most people think that to find good food you have to go to the heart of downtown, but that’s not true.  North Asheville provides a multitude of local options with menus that appeal to the carb lovers and vegans alike.

Do you like BBQ or southern comfort food with a twist?  Head over to Luella’s Bar-B-Que for pulled pork, brisket, smoked chicken/turkey, and tons of specialty sides.  They also have Sunday brunch, bloody marys with a dry rub rim, occasional live music, local brews and weekly specials.

Is home cooked Italian or a hand shaken martini more your speed?  Vinnie’s Neighborhood Italian has become a north Asheville gathering place for casual dining and has a menu that & ...
